In the second half of December, vaccines meant for children aged 5-11 will arrive in Estonia. Although the people of that age group tend to have lighter cases of the coronavirus, healthcare experts still recommend getting vaccinated, but efficacy and side-effects are causing hesitation among parents.
The government may make a decision on Tuesday to ease restrictions on entertainment venues and events, meaning that it may soon be possible for bars and nightclubs to remain open after 11 p.m.
In relation to the worldwide spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, the government cabinet decided on Tuesday to impose a testing requirement on eight Southern African countries, along with Egypt and Turkey.
Head of the government's scientific council Irja Lutsar said the experts do not support easing restrictions in Estonia. They recommended the government start testing travelers arriving from Southern African countries.
It would be illogical if the existing coronavirus vaccines do not work at all against new strains of the coronavirus, including the latest Omicron, Virology Professor Irja Lutsar said on Monday.
