A leaving certificate student from Dublin, who only took up the winter sport of luge a little over a year ago, competed at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in South Korea last weekend.
Elsa Desmond became the first-ever Irish Olympic competitor in luge on Monday afternoon at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Desmond, who qualified as a doctor during the Covid-19 pandemic, posted a "good clean first run" of 1.01.608, which will be added to her second run later on Monday.
