WINCHENDON Calling all insect enthusiasts: Would you like to learn more about the important role that bees play in the environment? Then head over to the Beals Memorial Library (50 Pleasant St.) to get the buzz about bees with local beekeeper Jody Jess.

WESTMINSTER A local farmer has received the ultimate “stamp” of approval.
Jody Jess, whose family has owned the Buck Hill Homestead Farm for generations, recently had her idea for a postage stamp approved by the United States Postal Service. The Heritage Breeds Commemorative Forever Stamp will go on sale at post offices across the country on May 17. On that date, Jess will attend the “First Day of Issue” dedication ceremony in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
Jess, who raises rare heritage breeds, including dairy cows, pigs and chickens, on her farm, said she was visiting her local post office in 2015 when she noticed a poster advertising a new stamp available for sale. She asked an employee how the post office came up with designs for new stamps, and she was told that any citizen is invited to submit ideas to the United States Postal Service Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.
