In 1916 Milford Creamery was a well-established aid to dairy farming in the community. Evolving from Milford Dairy Factory to Milford Co-operative Creamery Ltd. was a testament to its success and a boom in agriculture during World War 1, 1914-1918 would further increase activity within the creamery. However, the political climate in Ireland from 1916 onwards was to have a major impact on all aspects of Irish Life. Milford would not escape the troubles and Milford Co-operative Creamery, the centre of the farming economy, would be a focus for reprisal during the struggle for independence. 1919-1921 was the period referred to in Irish history as the Anglo-Irish War or more commonly the War of Independence. The war was to be a systematic attack on Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks and R.I.C. police officers, in the eyes of Republicans, symbols of British rule in Ireland.
