The funeral procession was also greeted by a unit of the Irish Defence Forces, which was conducting a silent drill, standing closer to the grave than any other military personnel, except the honor guard.
On Nov 25, 1963, 26 Irish Army Cadets performed "the Funeral Drill" at the graveside of President John F. Kennedy. Sixty years later five of those Irish cadets attended the launch of EPIC Musuem's exhibition "Homecoming" to recall their experience.
Just teenagers at the time they formed a guard of honor at the graveside of a US President, the Irish Army cadets who performed the final salute for President John F. Kennedy can still hardly believe the experience over 50 years on.
