Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Martin Wambora (Embu) and Dhadho Godhana (Tana River) will today battle it out for a chance to chair the Council of Governors (CoG).
County bosses are seeking to replace Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who has served his maximum two terms.
The governors will also be electing CoG vice chair, whip and 12 committee chairs after the term of the current team lapsed.
Mrs Ngilu will be the second woman to run for the post after Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru failed to secure it last time as she was prevailed upon by her male colleagues to step down in favour of Mr Oparanya.

Summary
Treasury Secretary Ukur Yatani said the money is part of the Sh133 billion equitable share and conditional grants released to the counties for the financial year to June.
The funds disbursed through accounts at the CBK comprise Sh120.2 billion as equitable share and Sh13 billion as conditional grants that mainly funds delivery of health services.
The disclosure by the Treasury came even as county chiefs continue to decry delayed disbursements from the National Treasury that they say have disrupted delivery of services like health and payment of salaries.
A good number of them have declared interest in the presidency, either for real or to raise their stakes, while others have kept off the debate as many more brood over the same. The prospects of one becoming a prime minister are beginning to open them to ideas of running for parliamentary seats.
But to get the prime minister position, one has to first contest for a parliamentary seat before being appointed by the president, according to the draft Bill that is being spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
But the announcement by Joho might jolt the undecided to make clearer their plans lest they miss out spoils of the first charge.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka [Elvis Ogina, Standard]
Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka is appealing to governors to foster good working relationships with ward reps in order to stem the current wave of impeachments in the country.
Lusaka wants the county bosses to embrace dialogue with the MCAs and stop chest-thumping if at all they want to continue to stay in office.
The Speaker was reacting to the impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko by the Nairobi County Assembly, which the senate stamped authority to his removal last week.
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was also impeached last year and his deputy Dr James Nyoro took over as governor.
