Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a speech at a December 10, 2020 military parade in Baku, Azerbaijan that he has confidence in the leadership of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and that Turkey and Azerbaijan are two states, one nation. He said that for Azerbaijan s territory to be saved from occupation in the Nagorno-Karabakh War does not mean that Azerbaijan s struggle is over, and he stated that it is Turkey s responsibility to hold accountable those who trampled underfoot the honor of humanity. Erdoğan added that he believes that soon, the one million Azeris who had fled from Azerbaijan will soon return to their homeland. Erdoğan then recited lines from a poem that many media outlets

Iranian journalist Ruhollah Zam was executed by hanging.
The spokesperson for EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell added: ‘’The EU believes that the death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment, which fails to act as a deterrent to crime and represents an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity. The European Union calls on Iran to refrain from any future executions and to pursue a consistent policy towards the abolition of the death penalty.’’
The European Union condemned the execution on Saturday in Iran of Ruhollah Zam, a journalist, editor of the Amad News Telegram channel, ‘’convicted of playing a role in provoking violent riots.’’

It is very rare for an active diplomat to be put on trial. The alleged crime has to be extremely serious for a government to take a diplomat from another country to court. But this is exactly what is happening with the Iranian Assadollah Assadi in Belgium the first time in the history of Iran that one of its active diplomats has been on trial on foreign soil.
