After repeated denial by Russia and Iran regarding the supply of arms, Israel President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday said his country had shared 'intelligence' with the US to prove the deals had indeed taken place.
Herzog said Iran supplied drones that Russia has used in recent times to create havoc in Ukraine. The Israeli president made the statement during a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in Washington.
European Union leaders met on October 21 for a second day in Brussels to discuss economic ties with China, providing further aid to Ukraine, and punishing Iran for supplying drones to Russia for use against Ukrainian civilian and infrastructure targets.
Russia has turned to the Iranian-supplied drones, as well as Kalibr and Iskander cruise missiles, to carry out a barrage of attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure and non-military targets.
Biden administration officials said Thursday that the US has evidence about Iran sending troops to Crimea in Ukraine to assist Russia with drone attacks. The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was struck by kamikaze drones on Monday, deployed by Russia but reportedly Iran-made.
"Iran sent trainers and technical support to enable Russian forces to use Iranian-made drones with better lethality,” John Kirby, White House National Security Council spokesperson, told reporters in a teleconference.
