deal with iran because they re all still upset because they thought it was going pretty well. to have sanctions work on a country like iran, you need allies to be in it with you. and it doesn t look like the u.s. is going to have that right now when it comes to these sanctions. it is already the iranan economy is already not doing all that great. so probably won t help. but it will be much more effective if allies help. clearly the iranian economy is in deep, deep trouble. and david, imposing additional sanctions at least for now seems to be the president s preferred avenue for dealing with this potential a iranian threat even as many of the national security advisers want military action. right. so let s be clear. it is a good thing we re not in a shooting war with iran right now but the president is in tight space because he declined to strike militarily last week as congressman brown just told you, i think the sanction that
the escalation of forces on the ground and a haphazard way to make a decision whether to strike or not and the big concern is that we don t know what iran s response will be. they may in turn response which could then lead to a further exchange of responses, military in every domain, air, land, sea and as we know, recently, even cyber. so my concern is let s take a deep breath, mr. president trump, engage with allies and stay engaged with congress and find a diplomatic solution to what the challenges are here with iran. in a tweet earlier today, the president suggested that the united states doesn t even need some sort of military presence in the shipping lanes of the persian gulf. he noted that china gets 91% of the oil from there, from the straits of hormuz and japan 62% and the u.s. very little. should the u.s. withdraw its forces from that part of the world? absolutely not. the united states has an interest in the shipping lanes and through the strait of hormuz and the gulf of
same man he once dubbed rocket man, the kind of bravado that doesn t always end with wins. the president just pulled back from threats to round up millions of undocumented immigrants tweeting he delayed it for two weeks to see if democrats and republicans can work out a solution to the problems at the southern border, but mr. trump had also heard from house speaker nancy pelosi who warned his deportation rhetoric is frightening children across the country. when i spoke to the president, i said i m a mom. i have five kids, nine grandchildren, and children are scared. you re scaring the children of america. not just in those families but their neighbors and their communities. the president has also hinted he might take action against jerome powell, but he denied reports he considered demoting powell over rising interest rates. your threats to demote him, do you think it s had an impact?
drone last week. the sanctions are the latest example of mr. trump engaging in bringsmanship with a foreign adversary, something he s tried time and time in the past. a pattern that raises the question, whether this is brinksmanship or more bluster. president trump is ratcheting up the pressure on iran. announcing what he described as new hard hitting sanctions on tehran s top leaders adding the move is partly in retaliation for a downing of a u.s. drone last week. this, you could probably add it into this, but basically, this was going to happen anyway. as he s done in the past with other adversary, he teased more tough action could be on the way if iran doesn t change its behavior. i won t say what i would do, but i don t think they should do it. it s a kind of brinksmanship he has used with mixed results. consider what he discussed moments after he delivers the sanctions on iran. he just received a birthday present from kim jong-un, the
democrats. they are saying that some of these guys who went to graduate school that are now with these really good firms with big time jobs it that it doesn t seem fair. right. the argument is that it is too preferential to people who have college degrees or professional degrees, then they have more lifetime earning potential. now there is also just the obvious question of is it fair to forgive the student debt when so many people have struggled for so many years to pay off their student debt? maybe they have just paid it off, now they see everybody else have their debt forgiven. yeah. the thing is, when this idea of you know it president trump saying that he now would rather go after hillary clinton, he would rather go against joe biden and hillary clinton. i want you to play the sound bite from nbc. we spent a lot of time
