The Karachi Traffic Police has been striving hard to make the roads safe through different modes of operations, and its personnel have fined 3.1 million vehicles a total of Rs751 million despite lockdowns in the city in the year 2020.
A senior officer, while about traffic issues in Karachi, told The News on Saturday that the functioning of the traffic police was also hampered due to the Covid-19 lockdowns. He said a number of traffic campaigns had been launched by the traffic police, but the success of the campaigns was somewhat compromised when offenders used their “influence or pressurized” the officer concerned not to issue them with a ticket for a fine.
Drive against fancy number plates, pressure horns announced

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Iqbal Dara, chief of the Karachi Traffic Police, announced a special campaign on Thursday against fancy number plates, tinted glasses and pressure horns.
DIG Dara said that in pursuance of the order passed by the Sindh High Court, a notice was being given to the public that the use of pressure horns, unauthorised registration number plates, fancy number plates, tinted glasses, revolving light and bar light and unauthorised sirens and hooters were strictly banned in the city.
âTherefore, all motorists (owners and drivers of the vehicles) are hereby given a deadline till 4th January 2021 to remove pressure horns, unauthorised registration number plates, fancy number plates, locally tinted glasses, revolving lights/bar lights and unauthorised sirens/hooters, etc. from their vehicles,â he said it a statement.
Man killed, two daughters hurt in crash

A man died and his two minor daughters sustained injuries in a road traffic accident that occurred in North Nazimabad on Thursday. According to police, a car hit their motorbike on the road leading towards Karimabad from the Ziauddin Hospital in the city s district central. After the collision, the father died at the scene.
The body and the injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased was identified as Aslam, son of Suleman, while his daughters as six-year-old Amna and eight-year-old Aliya. The deceased was a resident of Moosa Colony.
