If you re wondering how Apple has been managing to put an always-on display in the Apple Watch for two generations now but still hasn t done it in the iPhone, you re not alone, and the good news is that that s about to change. According to a report by EverythingApplePro citing leakster Max Weinbach, the next iPhone is set to have a 120Hz screen and always-on functionality.
Just like the Apple Watch, it s going to use an LTPO display, which should let Apple have an always-on screen without sucking on power. But that s not all, because the report left almost nothing to the imagination when it comes to the next iPhone, even saying that it will be called the iPhone 12s instead of the iPhone 13. Other sources named in the round-up include Jon Prosser, Ming-Chi Kuo, and WSJ.

Leaks concerning 2021’s crop of iPhones have seen a number of twists and turns, the least of which concern whether they will be called the 13 or 12s series. However, the latest rumor, coming courtesy of the XDA contributor Max Weinbach via a new EverythingApplePro video, asserts that a major trend in smartphones is finally to be adopted by them this year.
Always-on displays, pioneered by Samsung, have become hot features due to their ability to keep the user updated to a device’s status at a glance. They are strongly associated with AMOLED displays, as they can leave pixels on over an otherwise black background. They were well-received when they came to Apple Watches in their fifth generation, but have yet to make it to iPhones.
Apple has the iPhone 13 mini (or the iPhone 12s mini) in plans for its 2021 lineup despite poor sales records of the iPhone 12 mini, according to a tipster.
According to a new leak, Apple is set to include an always-on display in its new iPhones. On top of that, it will be 120Hz, there will be better MagSafe magnets, vapor chamber cooling, and more.
