Jack and Erin Butler released a public statement Monday afternoon, four days after their son killed one person and wounded seven others in the Perry school shooting. In part, it reads: "Perry is our home and beloved community. We would never wish the harm and pain that Dylan’s actions caused on anyone and we could not have imagined that Dylan would carry out such a heinous act. Our family has to mourn and bury our son, and live with this terrible legacy."
Perry schools superintendent Clark Wicks said classes for Perry High School students will be canceled all next week and the earliest classes will resume for elementary and middle school students will be Friday, Jan. 12.
Authorities have provided no information about a possible motive or how Dylan Butler, who they believe acted alone, obtained the firearms used to kill one and injure seven others Thursday in Perry.
