ISU Says Students Not Involved in Criminal Activity
Iowa State University s College Republicans stated last week that they were fighting on the front lines of D.C. as brave patriots during the U.S. Capitol insurrection. But this week, officials at the school told The Gazette they have no knowledge that those students broke any laws.
ISU spokesperson Angie Hunt told the Gazette, At this time, there is no indication that any students were involved in criminal activity related to the U.S. Capitol breach. “At this time, there is no indication that any students were involved in criminal activity related to the U.S. Capitol breach,” ISU spokeswoman Angie Hunt said. “We continue to monitor the situation. If conduct violates the law or university policy, we will take appropriate action.”
The “College Republicans at Iowa State” Twitter handle on Jan. 6 posted, “We are in DC and Des Moines fighting for America.”

While supporters of President Donald Trump swarmed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, some of his supporters in Des Moines gathered in the Iowa State Capitol. Stop the steal! Drain the swamp! the crowd of over 100 people, carrying Trump flags and wearing Make America Great Again hats and other Trump apparel, chanted throughout the noon event in the Capitol rotunda. A social media posting branded with a Drag the Interstate logo in the shape of Trump s face advertised the event as Operation Occupy the Capitol. Thousands, not hundreds, of patriots MUST convene at their state capitols to demand legislators return to the rule of law and respect the will of the citizenry, the description said. Patriots never give up the fight. The time is now. Help us save the Republic.
