Updated: 5:14 PM CDT Apr 6, 2021 The Iowa Senate passed a constitutional amendment Tuesday stating the Iowa Constitution does not protect the right to an abortion.The measure, which passed in a 30-17 vote, adds a “protection of life” section to the Iowa Constitution.The section reads that “To defend the dignity of all human life, and to protect mothers and unborn children from efforts to expand abortion even to the day of birth, we the people of the State of Iowa declare that this Constitution shall not be construed to recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or to require the public funding of abortion.”Planned Parenthood Advocates of Iowa said in a statement that the proposed constitutional amendment is opposed by groups across the state, including the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault, ACLU of Iowa, Iowa Medical Society, League of Women Voters of Iowa and One Iowa.“Anti-abortion

A few months ago Iowa’s economy was rated as the nation’s most COVID-19 resilient. This week US News & World Report ranked Iowa number one for opportunity. This rating is based on affordability, economic opportunity and equality.
