A Pella High School senior enters the homestretch of the 2021 track and field season with a memory of a lifetime. Kody Huisman won the 2021 Drake Relays Shot Put High School Championship with a throw of 58 feet, 7 inches at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Thursday. The Drake Relays pits the best Iowa High School Athletes against each other regardless of classification. Huisman says he’s worked on a new technique for throwing that mimics the spin of his discus throw, which he believes can still improve. “It felt really good, I had shot put and figured it out, and have been working on a spin and just went out there and threw and had fun,” he says. “It felt pretty awesome to win a championship at Drake and I hope to do it again at state.”
