Fowlerville school bond proposal fails by 33 votes

Fowlerville Community Schools  $37.8 million bond proposal failed on Tuesday by 33 votes. According to Livingston County s unofficial election results, 1,771 people voted. The bond proposal was the only issue on the ballot. The proposal received 869 yes votes and 902 no votes in Livingston County. Ten votes were cast in Antrim Township in Shiawassee County, with 5 yes and 5 no. Voters in the school district who lived in Ingham County voted at the Conway and Iosco Township halls, so their votes were counted in Livingston County. The school district was hoping to build a new elementary school and install air conditioning in existing buildings beginning next year.

April 28, 2021 By Jon King / jking@whmi.com A Fowlerville man has been bound over for trial after being charged in a hit and run incident last year that left an Iosco Township teen seriously injured. 25-year-old Joseph Lee Ackerman was charged in December with Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says Ackerman was driving a Ford F-350 on the evening of July 26th, 2020 when he hit 17-year-old Lewis Higgins as he walked on Bull Run Road. A witness told deputies that the truck’s driver initially stopped after hitting Lewis but then left the scene. Higgins suffered serious injuries that included broken bones in his feet and legs and a fractured pelvis.

Fowlerville school bond - Four things to know about the May 4 special election

Fowlerville Community School District is hoping to build a new elementary school and install air conditioning in existing buildings beginning next year.  The district hopes to do so with a $37.8 million bond proposal that goes before voters on May 4. School officials say the proposal will not increase property taxes.  Here are four things to know before the election. What improvements will be made if the bond proposal passes? Fowlerville Superintendent Wayne Roedel said there are multiple phases to the project. First, air conditioning would be installed in Kreeger Elementary and Fowlerville Junior High School. The district also plans to upgrade the electrical system in the high school to install air conditioning in a future bond proposal.
