Motorcycle rider injured in hit and run wreck with truck

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in a hit and run crash with a pickup truck Sunday night. At about 7 p.m., the truck and motorcycle crashed on Providence Boulevard near Market Street, according to Clarksville Police spokesman Detective Michael Patterson. The motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital, and the rider’s condition was unknown Sunday night. The truck, which left the scene, was described as a ’90s model, gray Ford F-150, two-door with extended cab. The truck should have damage to the rear of the passenger side, Patterson said.

VIDEO: Motorcyclist in critical condition after hit and run wreck

Dwight Lee Carter Sr. is in critical but stable condition after his motorcycle collided with with a truck Sunday night and the driver fled the scene. As a result of the hit and run, Carter has suffered several broken bones and a stroke, his family told The Leaf-Chronicle. Around 7 p.m., Carter was riding his motorcycle on Providence Boulevard with his son and friends when he and the driver of a full-sized truck crashed near Market Street. Video shows a vehicle fleeing the scene as other motorcycle riders stop in the middle of the road and run to aid Carter, a father of five. He was life-flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Update, 12:16 p.m.: The driver in Monday night’s single-vehicle crash was operating a 2018 Freightliner box truck and was heading west on the 41A Bypass at approximately 9 p.m., according to Clarksville Police. The truck left the roadway near Apostolic Lighthouse Church, traveling down an embankment and striking a tree. The driver, identified as 53 year old Robert Burns, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
