Her parents were James and Katie and their family home was in Invergordon. James was a butcher and Katie was mum to the couple’s two children, Irene and Williamina Mary, known as Wilma. Wilma was five years older than Irene but the two were close and Irene was devastated by the death of her sister when she was only 34 from complications from diabetes.
