THE Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, on Tuesday said nothing could be done on the decision of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to appoint an acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, despite a three-month extension he had earlier granted Mohammed Adamu.
The minister said this while announcing Baba’s appointment to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari had appointed Baba, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, as the acting IGP with immediate effect.
When asked why the President did not allow the outgoing IGP to last the three months of extension, the minister said, “Mr President is aware of this and you cannot take away that responsibility from him; he’s the one who is in charge of appointing or extending tenures.
