arrested? i think we re probably have the similar story that we ve had with many of them they get on social media, they talk about it with friends or classmates put up postings look at videos and basically attract attention, which eventually gets to the attention of the authors and they are able to look into phone records and internet records and determine just how active they are and start the investigation and see if they re serious or if it s just all talk. but then, tom, it has to be more than just curious. there has to be specific language if it s by way of social media, that may have been conveyed by these young people or there has to be some actual activity right, before you could lead to charges like this and arrests. no, that s true. i mean but what starts the investigation is the attention they re talking about wanting to do something, and then the authorities start the investigation and then you know arrive eight decision that it looks like they re actually
looked at these contemporaneous internet records that showed where this what server was registered at this time. that ip address had gone back to an internet connections that owned by somebody at the clinton s household at the time registered to somebody who had a slight misspelling that turned out to be an aide to the secretary when she was first lady under then president bill clinton. we don t know where that e-mail server is located, but we know that it was ran on a network the clintons had owned somewhere in new york state. and the aide you re talking about who seems to have set this up is named eric hotham and he has a long history with the clintons that involves other controversies. right. i think the question here is when we look into the server and how we know the clintons have used this private internet connection is where are these
involving police and your cell phone. privacy rights versus police going after alleged criminals. sensitive issue. and actually a very simple issue when you think about it. everybody knows that when the police arrest you they can pat you down. the question in this case is let s say they find a cell phone as is often the case. can they read what s on your phone without getting a warrant? and unanimously the courts said no. you need a warrant. they said, look, it s not accurate to call them phones anymore because they have text messages. they have internet records and emails and photographs. there s more information in your phone about you than there probably is in your apartment. so the courts said you need a warrant and i thought it made a lot of sense. it did to those nine supreme court justices. the conservatives and the liberals all nine of them unanimously agreed. how unusual is that? at the end of the year, the supreme court only has two more days for opinions. tomorrow and
