So were talking about a pretty narrow universe to begin with. Second, as a matter of principle, we welcome investment. This is good for our companies, its good for all sorts of industries, and its something that as a general proposition we want to encourage. But its vitally important that when it comes to national security, we remain vigilant. And thats what cfius is designed to do. Now, i think youre right to raise the question about whether in the event of a bilateral investment treaty the investment flow goes up significantly, is that going to put strain, further strain on the process, and do we need to look at that . Thats something id like to come back to you on on if i can because its a great question that i need to think through a little more. Great. I would welcome that and happy to discuss with you too. Thank you, madam chairman. Thank you, mr. Deutsche. Mr. Poe of texas. Thank you, madam chair. Thank you, sir, for being here. I have one a couple observations, and i want to sp
Maybe and i have these concerns about going to the university or the college and maybe the counselor, adviser, leaning on them, maybe talking them out of prosecuting because of concern did for the alleged perpetrators career or education. Whatever the case may be, i worry about the fact that an individual who decides initially not to prosecute or not to report to the Law Enforcement, all the forensics is lost, and then several months later, several years later, they decide still within the statute of limitations i want that individual prosecuted so theyre not going to do that to anybody else and then the forensics is not there because it was never reported to Law Enforcement and the people that ended up dealing with it didnt have the capability to even put a case together in the first place. One other critical aspect of mandatory reporting is that theres no way to build up more trust with police than to work with them. You know, we cant we cant fix the problem if theres a problem in th
Lower rates, address International Taxation in ways that currently but american businesses at a disadvantage, and allow for repatriation, but not simply empty out the treasury. And would generate enough revenue so we could pay for some infrastructure. Hope was that we would get some nibbles on the other side. To his credit, paul ryan expressed real interest in discussions and negotiations, but your previous speaker, mitch mcconnell, has said that he is not interested in getting tax reform, comprehensive tax reform of that sort, done. So theres still work being done. We are still in conversations with mr. Ryan, and i know that senators schumer and others have been working on the possibilities of a fairly robust ultimately you have to ask the leader of the senate, majority party, brought in to try to get this done. I understand why tax reform is losing, because those of us who believe in a simpler, fairer, more competitive tax framework in the abstract sometimes look at our bottom lines
Religion, the region they live in, they do believe in a common creed, that if people work hard in this country, they should be able to get ahead. I know that is what you believe. Those are the values you try to instill in your companies as well. My hope is that that decency and hard work, common sense will be reflected here in washington. With that, let me take questions. I will start with randall, since he volunteered for what i am sure is the thankless job of being head. [laughter] randall i will get it going here. Leader mcconnell was here earlier. He gave us all a cause to exhale talking about the budget. In the context of that, he spoke about how split government can actually provide opportunities for getting big things done that might be hard otherwise. He caused a headhead snapper when he gave you a strong complement over president obama my head is snapping. What did i do . Randall trade you worked aggressively. He was complementary about the work. We have the possibility of get
Have the forward air observers that would make it more efficient than what youve got today. Can you share with us a little bit about what youre doing to try to improve that situation and how you would like to see that handled . General austin sir, we routinely use all of our Intelligence Surveillance and reconnaissance assets, u. A. V. s and manned aircraft, to make sure that we are understand whats going on on the ground before we employ weapons. And we are diligent in our efforts there, not overly cautious to the point where we where were not able to take advantage of opportunities to engage the enemy, but were very, very mindful of, you know, the possibility of committing civilian casualties. Senator round but were not using any of our own forward air observers at all . Is that fair to say . We dont have any forward air observers on the ground at all . General austin thats correct. Our jtacs are operating in the command center. What that does is allows jtacs to have visibility over
