OU International Students Services is continuing to work on summer financial assistance for international students despite the initial uncertainty caused by OU Housing checkout emails sent April 26.
In the email, OU Housing announced express or in-person checkouts from May 2 to 15 for OU students living in Traditions East and Traditions West. Several members of the OU international community said this message was anxiety inducing, as they expected to get OU summer housing for free due to the difficulty of traveling back to their home countries and their inability to pay three months of living expenses in the U.S.Â
Rabiea Abo Taha, an OU sophomore international student majoring in computer science, wrote in an email to The Daily he and other international students are concerned about how the lack of a university decision on free summer housing might limit their off-campus housing options.

Oumarou Abdoulaye Balarabe, a doctoral student in the Patton College’s Higher Education program, has been elected the new Holmes Council president by fellow Holmes Scholars at American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) member institutions across the U.S. He will serve a two-year term.
The AACTE Holmes Program supports students who self-identify as racially and ethnically diverse and are pursuing graduate degrees in education at AACTE member institutions. The Holmes Council, an elected body comprised of current Holmes Program doctoral and master’s students, serves as a student voice to AACTE on the programmatic needs of the Holmes Program. Responsibilities include supporting scholar engagement efforts and planning professional development opportunities for program participants.
