Longtime Aspenite and TV vet goes under the sea for debut novel-in-verse

It’s a good time for a timeless book. Especially one that rhymes. Longtime Aspenite and Emmy-winning broadcaster Greg Lewis had been working on a project for nearly seven years that fits that description. At the end of 2020, he self-published “Chasing Wonder,” an aquatic life lesson written in six-line rhyming stanzas that follows the journey of a lovable oyster named Wonder who has been thrown out of his bed (his oyster bed, that is). “Chasing Wonder” defies categorization as it mixes elements of a children’s book with messages that resonate in an almost spiritual sense. Think Dr. Seuss meets the Dalai Lama. Taking place under the sea in a land called “Curiosity” (forgive me, for it is hard not to fall into the rhyming mode and mood of the tale) the book follows our little oyster friend as he meets and confronts the kinds of existential challenges that afflict us all.

Owner of Showdown Montana ski area sells to his daughter

BRETT FRENCH After 47 years as a ski area owner, George Willett sold Showdown Montana to his daughter, Katie Boedecker, in September. “I’m looking forward to Kate having a great experience here and continuing to enjoy what she’s doing,” Willett said. Boedecker could not be reached for comment. But during Willett’s ownership she has worked a variety of jobs at the Little Belt Mountains ski hill. These include director of marketing and advertising, prep work in the kitchen, busing tables, operating the ski lifts, teaching skiing and overseeing guest services. In 2001 she became the ski hill’s operations manager.

Snow Trax 4 | Ski Instructor Rick Richards and Current Conditions

12/16/2020 By Daniel Gibson More regional ski areas continue to open and add additional terrain after last week’s substantial storms. For details read on. But as we await better days, here’s a look at one of New Mexico’s skiing institutions, Rick Richards of Taos Ski Valley (TSV). Richards is the author of the excellent, informative and colorful book Ski Pioneers: Ernie Blake, His Friends, and the Making of Taos Ski Valley, and has been a key member of Taos’ acclaimed ski school for 35 consecutive years, though he is taking off this winter due to COVID concerns.
