Tabique walls (TWs) are found in old constructions/buildings in Portugal. This article, drawing on research in the journal Architecture, Structures and Construction investigates the TWs to provide more insight into their construction mechanisms and the materials used.

UNESCO Cambodia mourns the loss of Prof Giorgio CROCI

Apr 20, 2021 Professor Giorgio CROCI was a Professor of Structural Engineering at La Sapienza University in Rome, where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960. He was a member of the UNESCO Ad Hoc expert group for the preservation of the temples of Angkor since 1994 and participated in the activities of the ICC-Angkor from its very beginning until 2015, when he separated from this position due to illness. As a coordinator of the international group of experts, he has tremendously contributed to formulate a document entitled Recommendations for the Conservation and Preservation of Angkor Monuments. From 1995 to 2005, he was the Chairman of the International Scientific Committee for Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage at ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites) and served presently as its Honorary Chairman. In Memoriam: Giorgio Croci (1936-2021)

Search Monday, 19 April 2021 2 min read The UNESCO World Heritage Centre would like to express its sadness at the death of Prof Giorgio Croci, a structural engineer who made an indelible contribution to the support of several iconic World Heritage sites, including Angkor in Cambodia, the Colosseum in Rome and Ethiopia’s Axum Obelisk. Dr Croci studied civil engineering at “La Sapienza” University of Rome, and became a full professor of structural engineering in 1984. In 1995 he became full professor of the chair of structural problems of monuments and historical buildings at the Faculty of Engineering at the same university, and from 1995 to 2005 he was President of the International Scientific Committee for Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage of ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites). From 1994 he was a member of the UNESCO standing committee for the preservation of the Temples of Angkor (Cambodia).
