Spain will be open to tourists by spring, tourism minister says

Spain will be open to tourists by spring, the country s tourism minister says. After Spain s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, stated the country would remain shut to international tourists until Autumn, Reyes Maroto, the country s tourism minister, has said in a press conference that Spain will begin to reopen in Spring. Making the admission last Friday, 26th January, Maroto said that “our priority in 2021 is to reactivate tourism and resume safe mobility on a global scale as soon as possible,” and that a staggered reopening will take place. Tourism is one of the most crucial industries in Spain, especially in nightclub hotspot Ibiza. Spain welcomes approximately 80 millions tourists a year, with the industry providing over 12% of the country’s GDP.

International Nightlife Association condemns illegal raves, calls for maximum penalty for organisers

The International Nightlife Association (INA) has publicly condemned illegal raves thrown during the coronavirus pandemic, and called for maximum penalties to be given to organisers.  The statement was published to the organisation s website in response to clandestine New Year s Eve parties. Traditionally one of the nighttime industry s biggest dates, on 31st December 2020 many countries were maintaining strict restrictions on gatherings in a bid to curb rising cases of COVID-19, leading to warnings ahead of the festivities about the number of illegal raves being planned.   The INA has now slammed several events that did take place for their lack of health and safety precautions, including failure to enforce social distancing measures, pointing to links between gatherings and infection spikes, and has suggested such parties could be responsible for delaying the reopening of the live events industry longer than is necessary.

Maximum penalties demanded for illegal party organizers

Maximum penalties demanded for illegal party organizers January 8, 2021 The worldwide scarcity in nightlife offer caused an important spike in illegal parties for New Year’s Eve, with little to no health or safety measures. The illegal parties that most stood out during what should be the industry’s most important night of the year took place in France, Spain, UK, and the USA. While most of the world’s population is under strict social restrictions, in France, over 2,500 people gathered to party and in Spain, 300 people were allowed by the Catalonian government to party for over 36 hours. Not to mention, in the UK, England’s area with the most coronavirus cases in Essex also had an illegal gathering in a 4 million pound mansion.
