Davidsons place in the history of the city of milwaukee. Ofre were four founders harleydavidson motorcycles, three brothers, arthur, william and Walter Davidson and their friend william hartley. They cooperated in the early 1900s to create the harleydavidson motorcycle. Came from a moment in time in the early 1900s. Personal transportation was undergoing a revolution with the end of the horse and carriage and the rise of the bicycle and small, internalcombustion motors. Harley davidson was founded not necessarily as a Motorcycle Company, but really a Motor Company. When you look at the name of the company, it is harleydavidson Motor Company. There were really the business of providing transportation solutions. And one of the first was a motorized bicycle, essentially a prototype motorcycle. And i think they had such success motor rising that first bicycle and morphing from a clipon motor that would be attached to an existing bicycle, to a purposebuilt motorcycle that dovetails nicely t

In 1936, five years before they published let us now praise famous men, james agee and photographer walker evans produced a feature article for Fortune Magazine titled cotton tenants. It was about three poor families in alabama living through the great depression. The 30,000 word article and accompanying photos were never published by fortune, but cotton tenants was discovered decades later in a collection of agees manuscripts housed at the university of tennessee. During this event hosted by the Jimmy Carter Library and museum, editor john summers leads a Panel Discussion about the book and the work of james agee and walker evans.
