Kottayam: It has come to light that Kerala reports the lowest number of domestic violence incidents. This was found in a report prepared by International Institute for Population Science in 2019-20 for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The information regarding the status of woman aged between 18 and 49 years was included in the report.
The survey was conducted prior to this in 2015-16. Then the rate of domestic violence in Kerala was 14.9 percent. This has reduced to mere 9.9 percent in the survey held in 2019-20. There are very few states that has less than 10 percent of domestic violence rate. The rate in other states are like this: Karnataka – 44, Bihar – 40, West Bengal – 27, Andhra Pradesh – 30, Maharashtra – 25 and Gujarat – 14.
