Sign Up Two leading seafood industry organisations have teamed up for a new campaign aimed at tackling long-standing recruitment challenges in the processing sector. Attracting new people into the £1.6 billion Scottish seafood industry has never been easy, with many of the jobs often perceived as being smelly, dirty and possibly dangerous. Fish and shellfish processors have for many years had to rely on people from elsewhere in Europe doing work that most Scots find unappealing.

RIA 2020 winner: Food-to-go Retailer of the Year – Independent

Print 2nd February 2021 The 200-strong team at Mulkerns Eurospar in Newry, County Down have worked to increase weekly food-to-go sales in the store by £8,000 – from £24,000 to £32,000 – in a 12-month period. After discussions with local customers, the team decided to implement new ranges to cater to its varied customer base. The store has four dedicated two-metre bay fridges, three spider fridges, a 40ft deli counter, two carvery stations, a pizza oven and a 500sq ft preparation area for its food-to-go ranges. Over a 12-month period, the store has bolstered its food-to-go offering with additional ranges that are heavily promoted on social media using video content. An “Eat Well, Feel Well” range of low-calorie meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner was launched for shoppers seeking healthier meals. These are sold as part of a deal offering five meals for £20.
