By Jonathan Landay KHERSON, Ukraine (Reuters) -Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday urged world leaders to back a plan to end the war in his country, saying now was the time to push for peace after Russia s defeat in the southern city of Kherson. At the same time, he said Ukraine would not allow Russian forces to regroup after their withdrawal from Kherson, and said there would be more fighting until Ukraine reclaims control of all of its occupied territory. Zelenskiy made his remarks in a speech to a Group of 20 (G20) summit in Indonesia, where Russia s invasion of Ukraine was a key focus of discussion among leaders of the world s major economies. A day earlier he shook hands with soldiers and waved to civilians during a visit to Kherson, where he said Ukraine had gathered evidence of at least 400 war crimes committed by Russian troops including killings and abductions. I am convinced now is the time when the Russian destructive war must and can be stopped, he said via v

By Marc Jones LONDON (Reuters) - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) joined on Tuesday the chorus of institutions and charities warning that a serious debt crisis is now taking hold in the poorest parts of the world. In a new report, the UNDP estimated that 54 countries, accounting for more than half of the world’s poorest people, now needed immediate debt relief to avoid even more extreme poverty and give them a chance of dealing with climate change. A serious debt crisis is unfolding across developing economies, and the likelihood of a worsening outlook is high, the report published on Tuesday said. The warning comes as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank hold meetings in Washington this week amid rising global recession worries and a crop of debt crises from Sri Lanka and Pakistan to Chad, Ethiopia and Zambia. Achim Steiner, UNDP administrator, urged a string of measures, including writing off debt, offering wider relief to greater numbers of countries and
LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Tuesday will tell other Group of Seven leaders to remain steadfast in their support of Ukraine and request an urgent meeting of NATO leaders, Downing Street said, after Russia stepped up attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russian President Vladimir Putin has mobilised more troops and issued nuclear threats following a Ukrainian counter-offensive to retake land in the east of the country. Britain has said that Russian missile strikes on civilian areas in Ukraine are unacceptable, and Truss has said the virtual G7 meeting, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will also join, is a chance to reaffirm the unity of opposition against the invasion. Nobody wants peace more than Ukraine. And for our part, we must not waver one iota in our resolve to help them win it, Truss is expected to say at the meeting, according to extracts released by her office. Russia invaded Ukraine in February, in what Moscow terms a special operation. Britain
