VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): Lao and Russian military personnel have cleared 158 UXO devices from 29.2 hectares of land in Nakai district, Khammuan province, after a one month operation jointly conducted by the two armies.
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): Specialists from the Lao and Russian armed forces have begun the clearance of unexploded ordnance in Nakai district, Khammuan province.
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN): Russian demining teams have detonated more than 3,000 UXO items left over from the Indochina War, provided UXO clearance training for Lao specialists, and donated detectors and other field equipment.
Starting in 2018, Russian demining teams, representing the International Demining Centre of Russia’s defence forces, have carried out humanitarian UXO clearance in Borikhamxay and Xieng Khuang provinces, according to a statement from the Russian Embassy to Laos.
Hundreds of hectares of arable and other land have been restored to normal use, and more than 3,000 UXO devices have been detected and destroyed.
Russian demining teams have also organised special classes for people in local communities to teach them what to do if they find unexploded ordnance.
