Over a decade ago I witnessed a performance by artist Glenn Kaino and magician Derek DelGaudio that encouraged us to think about mistakes as portals into new worlds. What I found most compelling about The Mistake Room was that it didnt revel in the motivational rhetoric we often use when we talk about mistakeshow we learn from them and improve. Instead, it acknowledged the unpleasantness we feel when we make them.

Desert X has announced that the third edition of its exhibition will open March 12 – May 16 in the Coachella Valley, Southern California. Curated by Artistic Director Neville Wakefield and Co-curator César García-Alvarez, it will explore the desert as both a place and idea, acknowledging the realities of people who reside there and the political, social and cultural contexts that shape their stories. Desert X is produced by The Desert Biennial and is free and open to the public.

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA The 2021 Desert X outdoor art exhibition is underway this week in the Coachella Valley following a brief delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A dozen artists from eight countries including Egypt, Argentina and Saudi Arabia are deploying their site-specific artwork at outside areas across 40 miles of the Colorado Desert. The art biennial will run from next Friday until May 16.
