WWU Associate Vice President Brian Burton to Retire in 2022
Brian Burton, associate vice president for Academic Affairs and a professor of Management at Western Washington University, plans to retire on Aug. 31, 2022.
“By late next summer I will have had the honor of working with Dr. Brian Burton for 14 years, the last nine of those in the Provost’s Office. In his role as associate vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Burton has been instrumental in seeing the university through myriad initiatives and projects. From co-chairing the Strategic Planning Committee to his critical participation in the university’s response to the pandemic, he has served the university with dignity and thoughtfulness,” said Western Provost Brent Carbajal.
Kathleen Getz, dean of Loyola University Maryland s Sellinger School of Business, has been named the 13th president of Mercyhurst University.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Joe NeCastro, chairman of Mercyhurst s board of trustees and interim president of the university.
The news comes just over three months after Michael T. Victor left the school. Victor, who served as president for a little more than five years, had announced in October that he intended to retire in June of this year.
Ultimately, Victor left in February. After a robust national search that yielded a diverse and talented pool of candidates, Dr. Getz emerged as a passionate and accessible leader who we believe is ideally suited to lead Mercyhurst into the future,” NeCastro said in a statement.
