Jay Mebane, the current fire chief for the City of Burlington, was announced as Chapel Hill's new fire chief by Interim Town Manager Chris Blue this afternoon.
During a work session on April 10, the Chapel Hill Town Council met to discuss controversial changes to housing ordinances in the Town. The proposed amendment to the Land Use Management Ordinance would promote "missing middle" housing, such as accessory apartments and duplexes.
The town has a backlog of issues that must be addressed in the coming years, like increased service costs and city vehicle replacements. Officials are considering raising taxes by several cents to offset the costs.
