The city has halted a gun shop from opening – at least temporarily – after the Inspectional Services Department (ISD) on Tuesday issued a stop-work order.
“It is clear from looking in the window … they are doing extensive work,” and haven’t pulled a permit from ISD, said Mayor Ruthanne Fuller about Newton Firearms at 709 Washington St.
As of Friday, April 16, “a retail license [had] not come back from the state licensing agency yet,” said Interim Police Chief Howard Mintz.
However, according to a sign on the door as well as a recording on the business line, customers can call or email and make appointments. Neither the sign nor the phone message indicates where the appointment would take place or what transaction might occur. Nobody answered the phone number listed on the website and sign on Tuesday morning.
