KALAMAZOO, MI – Charles Riddle Jr. sees himself as being steeped in two cultures Black culture and basketball culture.
His affinity for the latter has allowed him to appreciate the abilities of athletes, such as LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, while his identity as a Black man makes yearn for the day when African-Americans, like social activist Bayard Rustin, who influenced Martin Luther King’s non-violent approach, and Henrietta Lacks, who produced the first immortalized human cell line, will receive their proper recognition.
