St Louis Interfaith group urges congregations to balance religious freedom with good public health this holiday season

ST. LOUIS — As Christmas celebration goes into full swing, an organization of 34 religions said here Friday that it wanted “all communities of faith and conscience” to exercise great caution to stay safe and protect others from the coronavirus. “The number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in our state and region just as we enter a season filled with a variety of religious holidays and communal gatherings,” leaders of the Interfaith Partnership of Greater St. Louis said in a joint statement. “In this critical period, houses of worship must carefully and intentionally balance religious freedom with government directives and public health guidelines meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus.”
