Odds or which day in which week is probably not helpful that i think everybody understands that if it tracks out to long but the political calendar can start working again. Sonata tomorrow is what youre saying. Moving on the problem is we are getting all of that to the competitors. Very good. We will read that in the National Journal leader. [laughter] just kidding. I want to talk a little bit about the James Burling experience with lighted up the gst is a little bit and we were talking backstage about the pollyanna view of what washington was like in the clinton years in the late 90s and republicans and democrats got along better and there were negotiations that led to the agreement whereas now it has been much more difficult. Maybe that is less so now that we dont have the debt ceiling fight and there seems to be more of a desire on the republican side to create a fiscal crisis, but tell me a little bit about how your interactions and negotiations with republicans on the legislation,
The republicans will not raise tax rates. The president , hes not going to budge on spending cuts, and if you scan the media this morning, it is the republicans who are getting the blame. Joining us now, monica crowley, a fox news contributor. And monica, why do you think that the president wants us to go over the cliff . Explain yourself. Well, first, it looks like the house g. O. P. Leadership actually went through the mayan apocalypse, okay . Last night. And the president wants to go over the fiscal cliff and always has for two reasons, stuart, number one, he wants all of the rates to go up. Not just on the 1 or 2 top earners. He wants everybodys tax rates to go up and even if you were to confiscate a 100 of the assets for the government for a handful of days. Stuart why would he want everybody to pay taxes to pay more. He wants revenue to pay for his monstrous, evergrowing, everravenous government, and he knows the money is with the middle class, not 1 . And the top 1 assets to inc
Senator, first off the air force understads the immediacy of necessity of Close Air Support. I believe the systems they have in place will provide us that immediacy. Again, as we use different platforms, we will have to work we will work through with the air force how we use those and how theyre best effective in supporting our Ground Forces as we move forward. Find it curious that you come over here with all the necessity for cost savings and the a10 costs for flying air is 17,000 for flying hour, the b1, 54,000 per flying hour. I as i said before, general welsh, i challenge you to find an army or a marine commander who is functioned in the field and needed Close Air Support that would feel comfortable with a b1 replacing the a10. Ill look forward to you providing me with those individuals. Fact is that the b1 is a much more expensive, it flies at high altitude, and it hit attacked static targets. That does not fulfill the mission of the of Close Air Support as i know it. Id be glad t
Department and the requirements of the combat commanders. Then we do a force Structure Assessment where we balance the predominantly ships but we look at all capabilities. Our ability to make the combat and commanders presence requirements and the operational plans as well as scenarios of the department. We roll all those factors in. First one teem took over a year of force Structure Review effort going on right after i took this job. The last one was in the face of sequestration last year. That designed a force to come from 202 to 175. Within that, though, we rooked at how we could afford that 175 force, we looked at pay grade. Were the youngest of all the services and so we have the we have probably we do, the lowest numbers of the top of six ranks. Theyre the most expensive in officer and enlisted side of the house. So,

Professor herman reassesses cart these legacy and argues the senator from wisconsin was justified in arguing there was a real communist threat inside the u. S. Government. This is about an hour. Cspan arthur herman, author of Joseph Mccarthy, why do you think we needed to reexamine the life and legacy of americas mosthated senator . Guest well, there are a couple of reasons. One is that we now know a lot more about the times and the context in which mccarthy had his political career and built his career of notoriety. We also know a lot more about joe mccarthy, the man, and about his own life. And what i wanted to do was to really put it together in a book that would give people a broad introduction, both to the period, but also to joe mccarthy, the man; to understand who he was, why he has the kind of tremendous rereputation and notoriety that he does and to understand where t
