hack his opponent s emails and then they did, and then obstruct the investigation with mueller is very similar to the conduct here. asking a foreign government to involve itself in our elections and obstructing congress. this is to show this is just who he is and what he does. you wouldn t necessarily go out of your way for a specific article dealing with the mueller investigation? i ll support what our leadership goes with, but i think we have to keep it focused specifically on the urgency of an upcoming election and the duty to protect that election. can you explain what happened with the phone logs that were part of the intelligence committee report that was made public last week because we ve now seen them. and rudy giuliani made a number of phone calls according to this log to the white house. but in the logs the democrats turned over, also said there were calls to omb or the logs suggested there were calls to omb.
world. this is new day. it s friday, december 6th. it s 6:00 here in new york. alisyn is off. erica hill joins me this morning. nice to see you, my friend. almost the weekend. almost. not there yet. this morning, donald trump is poised to become the third american president ever impeached. house democrats preparing to work for the weekend to draft articles of impeachment, essentially the formal case against the it s centered around his efforts to investigate a political rival. the evidence? phone calls that are a matter of public record where he asked the president of ukraine to investigate joe biden. everyone can see that for themselves. the question this morning is whether democrats go beyond that and include information from the mueller report. specifically the multiple cases of alleged obstruction of justice. overnight, house speaker nancy pelosi would not say which way she was leaning on that. only that the democratic caucus is working collectively. well, this as anoth
justice to do too much. i do want your take on one question facing democrats this morning which is how expansive to make the articles of impeachment. we know they re still talking. but what s less clear is if it s just talk right now and they ll focus on ukraine. where do you see it going? my view is in my opinion that it would be a tactical blunder, a huge mistake of democrats were to expand the focus to include the mueller report. let s not forget, john, that in the second half of the mueller report relative to the obstruction issues, mueller reached no conclusion. and then you bot spgot into thae tit for tat. more importantly i think it would play into the president s hands and the hands of republicans who say, look. they ve been lying in wait since day one for the president. this is about the whole kitchen sink and not simply what transpired relative to ukraine.
put in the articles of impeachment as the deadline loo looms. nancy pelosi recalls another thing from other impeachment. people say, this doesn t rise to the level of impeachment. they wanted to impeach bill clinton for doing something stupid. i loved him. i think he was a good president. a pivotal week ahead in the trump impeachment process. today by 5:00 p.m., the white house must decide if its lawyers will take part in house impeachment proceedings. the next hearing is set for monday. plus key lawmakers and key staff staying in town over the weekend to draft the articles of impeachment over the president. what should be in them is still the subject of internal democratic debate. there are new questions today about whether democrats got all the facts right in that intelligence committee report that is the backbone of their impeachment case. not one congressional republican
to russia. and that s an important point to bring up. especially if they want to craft this narrative and show a pattern, abby. exactly. i mean, part of this is about the president. though democrats arguing that the president after mueller testified literally the next day picked up the phone and did what he did in part emboldened because of a not in their view being held accountable for the activities that were laid out in the mueller report. now, i mean, i do think from a logical perspective, it makes sense to draw these lines of connection between the mueller investigation and what s going on now. they do have this nexus on russia and this nexus on the president s behavior both on the obstruction part and on the election interference part. but politically, i m not sure how bringing mueller into this, bringing mueller into the articles of impeachment specifically is necessarily going to help democrats. because it s become such a big
