manufactured. notably on capitol hill we have seen democrats start to call for the easing in mask mandates, a huge shift for them. obviously it s because the environment and situation on the ground has changed but you have to wonder whether the public perceptions are playing into that as well. i think the struggle for democrats is they are still trying to figure out how do we continue to preach a responsible message on the pandemic, some off you are base still wants these restrictions in place while also addressing the concerns of parents and they haven t figured that out yet. you say recognize democrats, i feel that democrats are afraid at this point. in the normal instrument readings for what you have going out in the country, town halls, the instruments aren t necessarily reading accurately. i sense in the last few weeks concern on capitol hill. well, they are staring down the possibility of i mean, losing both chambers, let s put it that way, and the map is narrowing in certa
problem, potentially resulting in a stall, if not a spin, directly down into the ocean. and something like that happened in the air france 447 crash, correct? that s exactly correct. the 447, the pilots misinterpreted the stall warning system. in fact, they ignored 80 something audible alarms saying you know you re in a stall, you re in a stall and they didn t believe it because they did not trust or believe their instruments. instrument rated pilots and you being a pilot, you know this we re trained to trust the instruments as long as the instrument readings are consistent with everything else that you re getting. you have your tubes frozen up that instrument is not going to be reliable and they re going to have to look towards secondary instruments to get the correct information. for our viewers when pilots talk about stalls they re not talking about engines that quit working, wings that exsedded their angle of attack reached
and you diverge as early as you can to minimize the angle that you have to turn to get around the weather. but sometimes you end up zigzagging for hours on end. the monsoon over india is typical of that. you may have three or four hours of zigzagging around thunderstorms. it s not pleasant but it s what we re paid to do and generally speaking, there are no incidents as a result. miles, take us through, if i guess some scenarios here if this was indeed a stall, as that screen grab indicates, which would put the nose of the plane up and the plane essentially falling out of the sky, if you allow that we saw with air france flight 447, the plane was in a stall, instrument readings were wrong, it took a long time for the pilots collectively to realize they were falling, that
important because from the outside, you see this catastrophic fire, you see all this billowing smoke, yet we have all these survivors. well, they re going to want to know how the folks got out in such a timely manner before the fire erupted in the aircraft. all of that is taking place right now, simultaneous cvr and fdr data being previewed and pumped back to the team, so that that will give them some idea if there is in fact a mechanical problem, they can start focusing on that as well. cvr, fdr, cockpit voice recorder, flight data recorder, not black boxes. the black boxes are orange. you just alluded to some perishable evidence. what would be the perishable evidence you re talking about? well, when we look at the cockpit, you definitely want to try and capture as many of the instrument readings. this is an electronic cockpit, all glasscock pit. you have television screens. but the screw carries personal items there, so you want to see what kind of paperwork they were
