OPINION- California is now among 18 states that require some form of media-literacy training in public schools after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 873 in October. It requires K-12 public schools to teach kids how to distinguish “fake news” from the authentic variety. It mandates that such curriculum be incorporated in a variety of subject matters, ranging from English to history.
