The use of genomic sequencing panels to perso

• Genomic sequencing panels are tests that analyse the DNA of the patient's tumour to look for genetic variants for which there are effective drugs. If the tumour has these variants, treatment can be personalised. • Today, these tests are only useful in 1 in 20 patients in whom they are applied, because most of the time they are used without following clinical recommendations. This is the finding of a study by the CNIO Breast Cancer Clinical Research Unit. • The study shows that when clinical recommendations are followed, genomic sequencing panels increase the efficacy of treatments and patient survival. • The use of these tests is recommended for patients with metastatic colon, lung or melanoma cancer, or rare tumours, or for patients who are going to participate in a clinical trial.
