This classic hotel, bar takes back-to-back titles as Best Fish Fry in Northern Lower Michigan

The Lewiston Hotel Bar is that place.
It was our winner of the Northern Lower Peninsula’s best fish fry poll as part of our search for Michigan’s Best Fish Fry.
It had almost three times more votes than the second-place finisher, the Keyhole Bar in Mackinaw City. (More poll results below.)
Owners Mike Lietzke and Meredith Larson, who bought the bar in 2015, are thrilled with the award, which they also won in 2019.
“We are super excited to win twice,” Lietzke said.

We asked, and you answered, with your votes for Michigan’s Best Fish Fry in 11 regional polls. We’ve been sharing these top contenders, as well as a few special stories over the last few weeks. We thought that in honor of Fish Fry Friday, we’d put them all together in one handy spot, so you can plan your fish eating adventures today.

PERRY, MI - Bear’s 105 Diner might be Michigan’s most “unexpected” fish fry winner.
It’s located right off the busy I-69 expressway, and it’s attached to the Roadtrip Oasis Sunoco Truck Stop.
Travelers probably have passed it a million times.
“We still get a good amount of truckers, but we get a lot of families and regulars from the community, too,” said owner Jordan Nieto. “We love being able to provide great food and service to a wide range of people.”

They use Drake’s batter mix and “our own spices to season,” said co-owner Rachel Wegner, who with her husband Tom opened the bar/restaurant three years ago on Feb. 20.
And the tarter sauce is homemade.
“We use bright green Chicago-style relish, house spices and lemon juice,” Wegner said.
Wegner’s was the Kalamazoo/Southwestern Michigan Poll Winner in our search for Michigan’s Best Fish Fry. It had 28 percent of the vote, beating out Coloma FOP #147 in Coloma, which had 17 percent. (See the full poll results below.)
