Woman and man convicted of assault causing harm

A woman has told the district court how a man encouraged another female to kill her as she lay on the ground and that he kicked her on the head during an incident more than two years ago.

Lockdown assists downward trend in criminal activity

The downward trend in crimes following the introduction of lockdown restrictions continued last month as figures for the Dundalk District showed a marked decrease across most categories. Statistics provided by gardai at last week s meeting of Dundalk Joint Policing Committee showed a major reduction across most categories crime. There were, however, worrying increases in the number of reports of domestic abuse as well as a spike in burglaries, with a spate of break-ins in the Cooley peninsula contributing to the latter. While there was a 167% increase in burglaries during the month of January compared to the same time last year, with 16 break-ins reported, there were no reports of aggravated burglaries. There were no robberies from establishments or from persons. Thefts from shops showed a 69% decrease from 32 in January 2020 to 10 last month while there was also a substantial decrease in thefts from motor vehicles, down from 6 to 2. Other thefts were down 30% from 18 to 12. There
