Promised water system didn’t materialize

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, April 2, 2008) - Mine operations at Lihir Gold Mine in New Ireland province came to a standstill beginning yesterday morning as landowners placed gorgor at the respective operation sites, blocking employees from entering worksites.
This resulted after failure by the company to address water issues raised by landowners from the Putput area in Lihir.
Reports said there had been some understanding between the landowners and the company to improve water supply for the people but, seemingly, it has not materialized.
