AIRPORT FIXED PENALTY NOTICES FOR BREACHES OF COVID-19 By Andrew Atkinson Coronovirus lockdown rules are being broken by people dropping off family at Manchester Airport, with multiple fines being handed out by police. Future flights from Manchester to Alicante-Elche airport are scheduled for March 13 and 20 with easyjet (TBC). Legally, people will have to notify airlines of the reason for their journey from Monday March 8, 2021. Greater Manchester Police have issued 160 fixed penalty notices for breaches of Covid-19 regulations during in recent weeks. Large groups of people have been found dropping family members off – and entering the departures terminal. Under the lockdown regulations it is not allowed.

Councillor Aasim Rashid, of Castleton ward, and Councillor Shakil Ahmed, of Kingsway Ward, both attended a meeting last month at Manchester Airport alongside the Consul General of Pakistan, Superintendent Chris Allsop, and councillors from other Greater Manchester boroughs. Councillor Rashid said: “According to Manchester Airport data, the highest number of travellers at present are to Islamabad. During the pandemic, especially lockdown, only essential travel is allowed. Any travelling to attend weddings, social and leisure purposes is totally illegal.”
