Inmates at the Athens-Clarke County Jail were apparently in a good mood when it came time for a needle in the arm Thursday.
About 50 inmates received a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination, according to Clarke County Sheriff John Q. Williams. The jail houses nearly 300 inmates.
“I went out there and it seemed like everybody was excited. There was some talking and joking. I think everybody had a good time and appreciated the opportunity,” Williams said.
Innovative Healthcare Institute of Athens donated the vaccination service to the jail. The single-dose vaccine was preferred for inmates to avoid having some miss a second dose due to being released or transferred.
