Our attorney general has advocated. At makes him a violator of his constitutional oath. We should be following in our oaths, not breaking them. When you hear about children being lured into this country by promises made by people in this town as to how good its going to be, oh, were going to get amnesty through and for any child that can get here before the border is secured, so we only allow legally approved people in, just come on however you can get here. We are luring people into horrible, horrible situations. Its time to start acting responsibly and that does not mean that we continue to send the message that is being signaled by this administration that, gee, if you can just get to the United States as a child well take care of you. And if we cant find your parents who are illegally in the country, then we will find somebody to take care of you legally, were going to allow you to overwhelm this country. And we have people saying, oh, if we just legalize everybody thats here, all
Required to charge. But i think surely all of you know that what it takes to do the research and development to develop these new projects to complete in the increasingly competitive global market, you know what the impact is when the cyberoccurring so the dollar value will be substantial. A range . Millions of dollars of information or billions or dollars of information . Not a range but its substantial. You said that the investigators were able to track these hackers to a building where they worked and did all of this. Wasnt that an opportunity to apprehend them or work with the partners to actually bring them to justice . Justice in the court of law. Weve been able to charge specific individuals by name. We mentioned where they worked that their department and not the Peoples Liberation army, unit 61398. And we hope as the attorney general said and anticipate that we will be able to bring them to justice and have them face their charges in a court of law. The opportunity were you ab

Today were going to talk about the acts and talk to you about the challenges that the rules and regulations present. Two weeks from today, well cover title ix. Four weeks from today, covering the administrative process thats spent a great deal of focus on the criminal Law Enforcement process and where were failing to get these perpetrators into the criminal Justice System and what we need to do to improve our abysmal record in that regard. I thank all of you for being here. Youre all invited because youre experts in various ways on this issue. And this is not a hearing. This is a conversation. The goal here and i want to say for senator jill len brand and senator blumenthal, theyre sorry theyre not here today. Theyll participate in other roundtables we will have. Carrot additionally. One of the things that we dont have enough of are programs or grants that encourage and inspire innovation and new practices and new knowledge about this issue when were placing all of our resources in enforcement and were not complementing that with innovation, then i think were creating a situation where we do have box checking instead of new thinking. I understand what youre saying. I guess what youre saying. One thing thats disappointing to me about this is that we depend on College Campuses for innovation for so many things in our society. You have on a College Campus i dont want to pick on michigan, although i kind of would like to pick on michigan. If you were at kansas, id really like to pick on you. Your system. You have law school. You have a medical school. You are training psychologists and psychiatrists. And social workers. You have every discipline and Academic Excellence in every discipline that is needed to come together on this problem. And you hav
Funded its post secondary institutions, not funding institutions that had served large proportions of mexican americans, including many of those along the south texas border. And deborah has written about this. In effect, identifying that south texas was an education desert. We see that that is still the case with one of the counties that nick hillman talked about. People in my own department actually teach students at that institution that nick hillman identified. We actually bring a program out to them. So that they can have access to doctoral education and policy studies. Even though i live in a metropolitan area, even though we are located in a metropolitan area, we have to reach out to them. We are held to the same standards, texas is one of the 25 states with performance funding. We are held to the same standards of needing outcomes as other universities like the university of texas at austin that served half as many lowincome students or fewer and we serve over twice as many lat
