By Press Association 2021 Royal Marines are undergoing cold weather training including ice-breaking drills in Norway (PO Phot Si Ethell/Royal Navy/PA) Royal Marines have been deployed to brave Arctic temperatures as they learn the basics of survival in winter weather training. The soldiers will undergo a series of intensive trials during the Cold Weather Warfare Course including being plunged into freezing water during infamous ice-breaking drills. All those taking part have undergone quarantine and UK troops are training in a bubble and in line with the Covid-19 guidelines of the host nation of Norway, the Royal Navy said. Sign Up Arbroath-based 45 Commando Royal Marines have deployed to the extreme Arctic for the next generation of winter warriors to be put through their paces. Following a rigorous quarantine period, they are now embarking on Norwegian training in temperatures well below zero on terrain which receives only four hours of daylight. Hundreds of green berets are involved in the winter programme, mainly from the Condor base outside Arbroath but also including a range of specialist units from around 3 Commando Brigade.

Arbroath-based 45 Commando Royal Marines have deployed to the ice of the Arctic following a rigorous quarantine period. The deployed marines - primarily from Arbroath-based 45 Commando - are to begin their 2021 winter deployment being put through their paces in one of the world s most extreme environments.  With barely four hours of daylight and temperatures well into the minus numbers of the host nation, Norway, hundreds of green berets will conduct their training in bubbles and in line with Covid-19 guidelines. The insertion yomp of Commando Forces during their Cold Weather Survival Course near Bardufoss Exercises with Norway, the United States, the Netherlands and Germany have been cancelled by the Norwegians due to Covid-19, but crucial training has resumed in the short-term for those who have been through quarantine.
