A sudden decision to merge two single-sex schools in the eastern suburbs has completely blindsided current and former students who say the move will benefit boys’ educational outcomes at the expense of girls.

The speed limit is being reduced on one of Sydneyâs most congested arterial roads partly to make it safer for cyclists following the death of a food delivery rider hit by a truck.
Transport for NSW plans to drop the speed limit to 40 kilometres an hour and remove several right-hand turns to ease gridlocks along Cleveland Street, the major east-west route bookended by City Road and Anzac Parade.

But while cycling advocates are welcoming moves to calm the traffic corridor, residents say restricting motorists from turning onto certain thoroughfares, such as Bourke Street and Crown Street, will create rat-runs along laneways and residential streets, including past a primary school.
