i ve known her probably about four years. i ve seen her on and off throughout the years working at this facility here. she s always usually been an inmate worker. she has the heart to where she wants to help people. it s not something we see a lot. i love my job. just to be able to be out. a personal relationship with staff. we get to build a trust. takes my mind off being in jail. i should reflecting on my crime. inmate workers are not paid, but they do get extra meals, which patricia says is compensation enough. these are all mine? yeah.

fight. kelly used to be an inmate worker. he was always really respectful to us. he was a good worker for the most part. never really had many disciplinary infractions. i mean, guy tried to take the canteen out of my room yesterday. when we came from passing out can seen, came in my cell. we ended up in a physical altercation. the inmate kelly fought who requested not to be on camera gave his side of the story to the disciplinary committee. you didn t take his canteen or nothing? no, i don t owe him nothing. mr. kelly? now it s kelly s turn to face the committee. he could receive up to 30 days in disciplinary segregation if they determine he instigated the fight. i feel like it s going to play out in my favor because i didn t do nothing wrong. i defended myself. i m going to let the narrative speak for itself. the officer report speaks for itself. who hit who first? he hit me first, and i responded.
i guess some people look at you and don t like you for some reason. they just target in on you, and a lot of them have been in there for 10 months, 12 months. so they re already basically, you know, all settled in. and i m basically new. bernard is charged with threatening to kill and unlawful use of a firearm. for allegedly holding a bb gun pistol to his father s head. during the course of his arrest, he picked up additional charges of resisting and assault on police officers. he s pled not guilty to all and is awaiting trial. if i really think about the future, it really, being contained and not being able to see my family and just be way way overwhelming. adding to bernard s stress is the fact that he s housed in a maximum security unit. he says he spends most of his time in a cell and trusts no one. not even the inmate worker who used to cut his hair.
